At the request of the United Kingdom and Her Majesty’s Coastguard, IAMSAR Solutions was invited to attend a SAR workshop for the United Kingdom Overseas Territories (OT). This meeting was held in Miami, Florida during the week of March 21st 2022 where multiple representatives from the Cayman islands, Turks and Caicos, Bermuda, Anguilla, British Virgin Islands and Montserrat attended. Additionally, personnel from the United States Coast Guard and the International Civil Aviation Organization took part in this event.
Mr. Jean Houde, CEO IAMSAR Solutions, addressed the audience for a full afternoon where critical topics such as the regular provision of qualified SAR training for the OT and the standardization of best practices across the territories were brought to bear. Mr. Houde offered concrete solutions to bridge the training gaps observed across the Caribbean; he also proposed a bold plan to conduct on-site tailor made courses such as the SAR Mission Coordinator and the Maritime Search Planning course. This unprecedented initiative offered joint sessions for personnel from various OT under the same training environment thereby establishing a level of standardization across the OT. Next, the audience benefited from a sample training session focusing on Cospas Sarsat satellite detection and the various distress beacons available.
The SAR workshop was a tremendous success and IAMSAR Solutions wishes to thank Mr. Phil Bostock, Operational Lead, Overseas Territories Search and Rescue Capability Project for this opportunity. #training#searchandrescue#sar
